Banking Hours (The sun never sets)
Heritage Banking Hall
Toronto (2 Queen Street East)
Awarded 2001
Completion 2002
Photo work created for the East and West bulkheads of the restored Heritage Banking Hall of Canada’s oldest chartered bank in Canada’s financial core. Sunrises and sunsets recall the period when the ‘sun never set on the British Empire’ (ca. 1910) along with the 24/7 hours of current banking empires. The work is a nod to Toronto’s financial prowess and the Great Lake that borders the city. Eighteen backlit photographs, anodized aluminium frames with stainless steel trim. Varying height dimensions 127 cm to 50.8 cm x 944.9 cm x 22.9 cm (50” to 20” x 372” x 9”) each. Commissioned by O&Y Properties Inc.
